Build It Worcester, Safa Cape Winelands and the Breede Valley Local Football Association collaborated to host the first Breede Valley Build it U13 football festival for schools in Worcester this past weekend.
A total of seven primary schools participated in the festival and those schools were; De Tuinen, Hexpark ,Alfred Stamper,PJB Cona, Siyafuneka, De Doorns and Sibabalwe Primary Schools.
The football festival started with a coaching clinic on Friday, 2 December 2022. The main aim of the coaching clinic was to give schools exposure to football, but also for the SAFA D-Level coaches to have their acquired skills put to use.
The tournament was held on Saturday, 3 December at Esselen Park Stadium in Worcester and was graced by attendence of SAFA Cape Winelands delegation, Honorable Councillor Vernon Bedworth and FFG Sports’ Ashley Naudé and Denshir de Koker.
Alfred Stamper Primary school in Zwelethemba and De Doorns Primary were the two finalists in a sensational finale. De Doorn beat Alfred Stamper by 3-1 to be crowned champions, walking away with gold medals,soccer kits, and kit bags.
De Doorns were not the only winners on the day, PJB Cona Primary in Zwelethemba, Worcester, was awarded the winning prize for the school with the most support in the tournament. The school has won a prize to the value of R3000 in building material from the local Build It. According to Henno Senekal from Build It Worcester, is it the aim of the store to get more involved in their surrounded communities and this was a great opportunity to live up to those expectations.
SAFA Cape Winelands has concluded that this festival was the beginning of a possible partnership with Build It in the Winelands and most probably in the Western Cape in an attempt to streamline and support primary schools football with the relevant structures. The Breede Valley LFA has played a crucial role in setting the standards for this schools competition and for other LFAs to emanate on the success of this event. Build It Western Cape has vowed that once all deliberations have been finalized, it will be up to the role players to ensure the effective role out of the perceived programs, come into fruition. At the look of things, is this a promise that might arise to to reality, rather sooner than later.
