The inaugural Mens Regional League Top 8 Cup was a great success and we thank the Cape Winelands District Municipality for Supporting the Tournament . The event made a difference in the lives of more than 2 00 kids and through this tournament they were saved from engaging in unlawful activities during the weekend. We acknowledge CWDM contribution to the development and promotion of football in the region .
Men’s Football is a core and integral part of all SAFA Cape Winelands activities,. The youth is the future and the key to the sustainable development of football in the Cape Winelands region. The Men’s Regional Top 8 Cup is a senior’s amateur football development initiative of SAFA Cape Winelands in partnership with the Cape Winelands District Municipality. The inaugural tournament was a great football platform that afforded the players to showcase their talent and an opportunity for the region to gauge the level of senior’s football strength. The event – The Men’s Regional League Top 8 Cup took place on the 20 – 21 March 2021 in Cloetesville Sports Ground in Stellenbosch. This was a youth football partnership between SAFA Cape Winelands and Cape Winelands District Municipality.
Event branding – Cape Winelands District Municipality team branded the Cloetesville Sport Ground with banners, and wall/media banner. Teams took photos using the wall/media banner. The branding created a very professional and positive image of the tournament – it also highlighted the involvement of CWDM and revived the partnership with SAFA Cape Winelands.
The teams and players – The participating teams come from the SAFA Cape Winelands Men’s Regional League Clubs affiliated to the Local Football Associations (LFAs) These are teams and players that are actively playing in the respective Men’s Regional Leagues – their ages ranged from 18 – 35 years.
Registration and verification – All players used cards as they were registered on MySAFA online football administration system. The team and player verification took place on Friday 19 March 2020 where the player cards and documents were checked and all players completed the attendance register.
Tournament structure – On Thursday 18 March 2020 there was a LOC and Team Managers Meeting and the inspection of the fields and covid19 protocols at the field – all top 8 teams attended.
The quarter-finals of the Men’s Regional League Top 8 Cup took place on Saturday 20 March 2021 and Semi-Finals and Finals on the 21 March 2021 in Cloetesville Sport Ground in Stellenbosch. Great pre and post-match photos were supplied by our SAFA CW Marketing and Media team. Stellenbosch crowned the champions of the inaugural Men’s Regional League Top 8 Cup 2021 after beating City Killers on Penalties (4 – 3) after draw 1 – 1 in the finals that were held on Sunday 21 March 2021.
